Pet Vaccines for Preventative Care

At Barlow Trail Animal Hospital Calgary, we truly believe in the importance of preventative care to keeping your pets healthy. We believe that vaccines are necessary for good health.

Vaccines protect our pets from potentially harmful (and sometimes deadly) diseases – they keep our pets healthy and disease-free. There are many different vaccinations, so it is important to discuss your location and your pet’s lifestyle with our staff and your veterinarian.

Puppy Vaccinations for Optimal Long-Term Health

When you book an appointment with us for your pet or puppy vaccinations this includes a full comprehensive examination. This allows us to ensure your pet is healthy enough to undergo the vaccines. Additionally, this provides you with the opportunity to go over any concerns you have with your pet’s health, weight and behaviour. The doctor will confirm any necessary vaccines with you, depending on your pet’s lifestyle and history. The doctor will then vaccinate your pet and work with you to determine the best vaccination schedule for your pet. Some immunizations are recommended yearly while others are given every three years. Usually administered during an annual exam, we work with you to develop an individual vaccine protocol that best suits your pet’s needs. Not every pet needs to be vaccinated against every disease. There are core pet vaccinations, which include rabies and distemper. These should be given to every pet, no matter where they live. However, not every pet needs to be vaccinated against diseases like feline leukemia and Lyme disease.

Puppy Vaccinations for a Healthy & Happy Pet

Our goal is to keep your pets as healthy as possible. We believe that vaccinating your pets is one of the best ways to do this. We always recommend vaccinating your pets with the core vaccinations. Depending on their lifestyle, we may recommend other vaccinations as well. When you bring your pets in for vaccinations, we give them an examination to make sure they are doing well and not having any problems. If you have any concerns about your pet’s health, we can discuss them at your visit.  At Barlow Trail Animal Hospital we are a close-knit team that remember and care about each pet and owner that come through our doors. We know your pets are part of your family so we are committed to giving every pet owner time and attention so we understand your concerns and leave you feeling confident and assured. If you have any questions or are curious about the different vaccines we offer, feel free to contact us.

At some time in its life, your pet may be exposed to a serious or even fatal infectious disease like parvovirus, often referred to in layman’s terms as “cat flu”. Having your pet vaccinated is the best and least costly way of preventing disease. Without proper vaccination, he is left unprotected.
